EMERGENCIES IN THE NEWS
When we are camping, the furthest thing from our minds is a natural disaster. Unfortunately, none of us are immune to them. The stories coming out of Texas are heart-wrenching, and illustrate the need to focus our attention on preparedness, because we all need to spend a little bit of time thinking about the what-ifs and the unimaginable.
As I watched the Texas campground owner look out over her park fathoming how the 24 RVs in her park had just vanished into the raging river, I thought about the unimaginable. We don't live on a river, but that doesn't mean flooding cannot happen. Extreme weather events are becoming the norm. Do you have a plan? Check out our Emergency Preparedness Plan here.
SITE OCCUPANCY LIMITATIONS
Ironically, I made a post about site occupancy a week prior to the Texas flooding in a camping group, and shared the reasons why some RV parks and campgrounds have those limitations. Not unlike many other parks, our reasons include our infrastructure (sewer, water, electric, trash), and the aesthetics of our park (protection of the quiet atmosphere).
EMERGENCIES & REGISTRATION
Site occupancy limitations naturally relate to camper registration. Many campers openly say that if they exceed the number of people allowed to be registered on a site at a campground, they just lie because "no one ever checks." But, what if the unthinkable were to happen? What if you register 4 people, but are camping with 6? What if you sneak that visitor in? In an unimaginable scenario where you are all in peril, we would be looking for the number of people registered.
Please take a moment to prepare. And please register the correct number of people to your site. Let's all pray that the unimaginable doesn't happen. But, in the event it does, a small amount of forethought could go a long way in saving the life of a loved one, or your own.
