Clayton Park's Firewood Policy We all love to sit around a warm campfire on a cool summer night and we know how much this experience adds to the overall pleasures of camping. As a campground providing this enjoyment, we have an important responsibility to protect and preserve our environment and minimize risk of injury. Because of the spread of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, the US Forestry Department and the state of Pennsylvania have regulated the transportation of firewood across state and county lines. Several states are now under quarantine, including Pennsylvania. We must do our part to prevent the spread of this insect and others such as the gypsy moth and Asian Longhorn Beetle. Therefore, we have instituted the following policy on the use of firewood in our campground. Per quarantine, it is illegal to move all types and species of firewood into Pennsylvania. You may purchase locally bundled firewood in our campground. For safety reasons, we do not allow items such as old building materials which may be chemically treated or have nails, screws or other hardware attached. i.e., skids, crating or pallet materials. We encourage campers to practice the age-old activity of collecting firewood in the woods around camp. There are always plenty of downed trees and limbs which make great firewood, while exercising important outdoor skills. Campers may not use a chainsaw or axe without express written permission from Clayton Park. If you buy it, burn it and do not transport from campsite to campsite. Seasonal campers must obtain firewood from a non-infected source, locally obtained. PA Firewood Quarantine - You can read more about the emerald ash borer and review the quarantine at Penn State's website.
